Old Fort Jackson, Savannah, Georgia

Do you remember the post about the zoo in Savannah?  The one were I asked if anyone knew what this was?

No one even guessed!  I guess it was too hard.  It’s a sugar cane press.  There would be mules attached to both ends of the long horizontal pole, and as they walked in circles the gears would turn and sugar cane would be passed through squeezing out the juice.  Sugar cane is yum! 

Here are some more pictures from our trip to Savannah.  This is what I drug my family to do on Easter.  I know.  Totally not traditional, but when you are in a strange town during a holiday what else is there to do.  For me it’s fill in as much educational stuff as you can.
