Oatland Island Wildlife Center of Savannah Georgia

I haven’t really been to that many Zoo’s in my lifetime, but I must say the Oatland Island Wildlife Center was one of the best.  It was all tree roots and dirt paths instead of concrete.  And the animals were more regional.
Here are some of our favorites . . .

Is there another zoo where you can just walk out onto a marsh on a boardwalk?  I don’t know of any.

There was also this  neat area where you could stop on a dock by a lake and buy fish food.  However, I saw this and freaked out.

Ok, from the above picture you might be able to figure out what it was, but when it was swimming toward the dock I thought it might be a water moccasin.  And even though I was well above the water I was going to get the heck out of Dodge.  But then I saw this.

They even had this sign posted to show you what you could see at the lake . . . but it was only discovered post freak out.

They also had some old homesteads set up.  Can anybody figure out what this is?

Very neat place! We actually used to have a pet yellow-bellied slider named Tom. Odd, but true.
