I heart Martha

It should be no surprise to anyone that I heart Martha. I watch her show almost every day. I can’t really say when these affections started. I was a college student with no place of my own to decorate, but the ideas! I started buying Living, and after a while I realized that I couldn’t keep all of them because I didn’t have enough room. College student remember. So I started ripping out the articles I liked and saving them in a 3” binder. After a couple of years my binder was about to go caput from all the adding pages, and the turning, and the drooling and what not (notice the sheet protectors!). I found four matching binders in my favorite color (big surprise) and voila! My secret crafting tool.

I divided my beloved articles into four categories: How-To, Special Occasions, Food, and Home. For several years I have tried to make my own Christmas presents. This was especially important when I was a college student, because I had more time than money. I would always “shop” in my binder for the perfect present to make for each person on my list. One year when I was especially broke I made everyone Christmas Card Wreaths! I think I spent less than $5.00 on each person. Who could beat that!?!

Why am I telling ya’ll this? Well, because after Martha’s show on blogging, she decided to have people post comments to her blog so she could feature them! How. Awesome. Is. That? I know that I can’t compete with other blogs on the number of crafts, or tutorials, or viewers, or decorating ideas, or recipes . . . but what I got is a whole lot a Martha Louuuvvee! I’m just saying.

If you want to enter your blog for review go here, The Martha Blog, and post a comment! I can’t wait to see all the lucky blogs that get selected and good luck everybody!

Sister Daughter

My family will be having a sort of family reunion for the gals really soon, and I have been trying to think of a craft that we can do together. I would do beading, but after the last bead party and with the fact that there will be 12 ladies, I’m afraid that it will get too costly. Since it’s my idea I kind of feel like I should foot the bill. I was wondering if you crafty bloggers had any good ideas? I’m kind of at a loss. Here are the criteria

Craft needs to
1) Take no longer than about an hour and a half.
2) Not require lots of tools or equipment.
3) Be appropriate for ages 30-70. i.e. Not something too small or hard to hold with hands.
4) And not cost more than about $5.00 per person.

See why I am having so much trouble?

Martha on Blogs

It’s been a while since I have got excited about a Martha episode. Mainly because they have been reruns for forever, and partly because it seems like all she has on is celebrity chiefs. Granted the one from today was pretty cool. Ice cream made with dry ice, got’ a try it!

I am pretty excited about tomorrow’s episode The Blogging Show. It could be really cool! Hopefully I won’t miss it because I don’t have TiVo, tear! If only I was as lucky as Jill at Homemade by Jill. She get’s to be in the audience! How cool is that?

I got an Award!

My first award! I can’t believe it. And I think it is even more special that it came from the first blog that I ever read, Meredith at Pregnantly Plump. She makes the cutest videos of her little boy. We actually have a lot in common. Just one of the many things is our shared appreciation for Elvis. I played all Elvis songs at my wedding, and she calls her adorable son “Little Elvis.” I can’t wait to see what cuteness he is up to next.

This award comes with rules.

1. You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserving of this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also contribute to the blogging community, no matter what language.
2. Each award has to have the name of the author and a link to his/her blog to be visited by everyone.
3. Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that presented her/him with the award.
4. The award winner and one who has given the prize have to show the link “Arte y pico” blog so everyone will know the origin of this award.
5. Show these rules.

I decided to pick the blogs that inspire me the most. Here they are in no particular order:

--Jerusalem at My Little Life - I have posted before how much I heart Jerusalem’s Blog. She is so creative and crafty! Hopefully with her helpful suggestions and inspiration, one day my house will look half as cute as hers.

--Sarah at The Misadventures of Sarah and Jack - Sarah finds the most amazing things! I wish I was a quarter as lucky as her at thrifting! Not only that, she sent me my first vintage table cloth! And it was my favorite color, green! I think I’m hooked.

--Lainey Paney at Life Is Just So Daily - I think this was the second blog I ever read. Lainey has a great since of humor, and shares some of the greatest stories. Some of the stories are very personal, and probably not the easiest thing to share. I admire her so much for being able to do that, and I know that it’s made an impact on me.

--Lera at The Sky is Pink - She sews, thrifts, makes soap, cans, collects Pyrex, and has six kids. How she finds the time to do all that and take care of six children I don’t know. If I keep reading maybe I will figure it out and actually get some stuff done!

--Liz at Mabel’s House - There are so many things about Liz’s blog that I like. She shared chapters from a book she has written (which is pretty awesome!), and she has the cutest vintage style! In fact I showed some of the pictures from her blog to my personal shopper. That’s how I got so many great things. Thanks Liz!

For some reason this has been really hard for me to write. It was hard to describe all the things I have come to enjoy about reading your blogs, and I guess it’s because reading them has come to mean so much to me. I have learned so much from each of you. Thank you all so very much!

And thank you Meredith! Without reading your wonderful blog, I would have never decided to try and have one myself. And thank you for the wonderful award!
